style stalker

My current fave style blog has got to be Variacje. I've been loving her sober and sophisticated combos of nautical stripes, black, white, and almost always just a touch of red. Her wardrobe is so well edited that she always looks completely herself, which is a strange thing to say since obviously I've never met her... but there's something about having a 'signature look' that exudes self-confidence and ease in one's own skin...
Her uniform of slick trouser, ladylike handbags, and chic Parisian stripes is so simple and masterful! Always impeccable.

summertime and the livin' is easy

It's crazy how fast the summer is just slipping away, I feel like it's barely even begun! To repress my sadness over the end of summer (and beginning of school arg) I was nostalgically going through old photos of summers past and I found a couple of gems.
Good memories of potato salad picnics, midnight dress up parties, biking through the city, and just doing pretty much nothing overall. Makes me wanna jump in my car with a suitcase full of bathing suits and head to the ocean for a month. Oh well. I'll have to be content to sit around on my porch all day instead. Can't wait for tomorrow, hooray for having Sundays off!

Me today wearing my mom's lovely new lace top that I couldn't resist stealing and her black satin heels, Mango jeans, and Chanel sunglasses.

black on black

Black
and black with just a hint of pink and jade.
I love this Valerie Dumaine silk jumpsuit I got last summer, it's so easy
and light... and its got a touch of something YSL as well. And c'mon, the fact that it's backless just makes it 100 times way better.

little pinkie

The pink hair is back! OH how I've missed you pastel sherbet coloured hair...
Why not indulge in sugary colours every once in a while, after all it IS the summer.

dear friend,

I must say it is a wonderful feeling to see yourself surrounded by talented people.
I am constantly astonished by the incredible creativity, insight, and all around amazingness of my super duper friends!
Here's a little tribute to my lovely girl, Katrina. What I love about her is that she's so soft-spoken and unpretentious and really truly nice, and she just floors me whenever she pumps out brilliant work like this!
Aside from being an awesome photographer, she does these whimsical little collages (which I still don't understand why I don't own one already...).
Anyways, she's been carrying around a crappy old camera from the nineties that looks about the size of a brick, and snappin' some new pics so I'm curious to see what she makes of that.
Here are just a few of her photos that I adore.

Here are a couple of me that she snapped a while ago.I'm wearing a delicate little embroidered cotton bracelet she made me for Christmas! It says Paris is Burning.

rainy days

Voila my lovely new gift from my bf's mom! She found this fantastic little bouclé skirt suit with fox fur trim. She has the ultimate eye for great garage sale finds and found this one the other day, which she quite promptly handed over to me, despite the fact that she has two very cool fashionable daughters.
I was at a loss for speech. Basically I just g
iggled and blushed and was unable to form actual words.

I'm currently working on a series of little mini projects, including a line of reworked vintage clothing. My 'business partner' and I go on little trips down to Value Village, Chinatown, or Kensington Market and search for garments with good quality fabrics, silk scarves to use as trims, vintage metal zippers, and zillions of buttons. My room literally looks like a sweatshop.
On my table are three machine, two sewing, one serger, a giant bag piled high with vintage fabrics rests in the corner, beside several smaller bags filled with knicknacks.
On my closet door hangs a variety of pattern blocks, cut out of hardpaper, our basic templates for the clothes.
What I love about these kinds of projects is being surrounded by STUFF. You can feel everything coming together and forming thousands of new possibilities: a metal zipper jauntily dashes up a Chanel-esque pink tweed skirt, vintage brass buttons flit across a cashmere sweater, the collar laced with organza.
My mom has a good friend who works at the Royal Ontario Museum in the textiles department. I must have a go and look at all those vintage finds for inspiration. Cannot wait.
